DESCRIPTION:The UK’s rail network is undergoing rapid change. Legislation has now been passed to bring operators under Government control\, and the establishment of a new\, integrated railway body – Great British Railways – that will bring track and train under one organisation. \nAlongside these structural changes\, the railways are seeing rapid technological change\, led by the increasing utilisation of data and artificial intelligence and accelerated by the creation of GBRX\, a new driver for innovation across the network. \nWith a new AI Action Plan for Rail\, listing 101 actions for accelerating the uptake of AI\, plans to establish a new retailer with a focus on digital and integrated ticketing and a drive by the Department for Transport to accelerate integration between transport modes and regions\, now is a critical time for delivery of a new ‘intelligent railway’. \nThe Intelligent Railway Summit\nDelivered in partnership with Cognizant\, ITS UK and the Railway Industry Association\, the Intelligent Railway Summit aims to bring together the industry to set out a way forward for a technology-led railway. \nWe’ll be bringing together DfT\, GBR and GBRX\, train operators\, ORR and the wider railway system\, together with transport technology providers\, to explore how the data\, AI and digital applications can shape the way we plan\, operate and use the rail network into the future. \nThe main objectives of the event will be to: \n\nGenerate new connections\, conversations and define a vision for what the ‘intelligent railway’ could be;\nSet out a clear way forward for the delivery of this vision\, with learnings captured for the future.

DESCRIPTION:Can technology personalise the transport experience?\nUntil relatively recently\, our transport networks have largely provided a standardised experience: passengers receive broadly the same information\, ticketing options and services regardless of their individual needs or circumstances. \nTechnology is beginning to change this. Greater availability of data\, advances in AI and digital platforms are enabling organisations to understand their customers better and tailor services around them. From personalised information and journey planning to smarter ticketing\, targeted disruption information and more accessible services\, there is now greater potential to create a transport system that responds to the individual passenger. \nMany other sectors are already demonstrating this at a more sophisticated level\, including in education and government services. So\, what can transport learn from these sectors\, and how far can personalisation go? \nThis Digital Transport Forum webinar\, delivered by ITS UK and supported be Salesforce\, builds upon the discussion held at the Forum’s Liverpool conference on 14 July.
