SUMMARY:Integrated Transport and the Future of Smart Ticketing Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:Smart ticketing – and the roll out of multi-modal\, integrated systems – has been identified as a key priority by the Department for Transport. Whether through the Integrated National Transport Strategy (INTS)\, the delivery of Projects Coral and Oval (in the Midlands and South of England)\, or new bus and rail legislation to give Combined Authorities more control of their bus systems and to set up GBR\, it is clear the policy and commercial landscapes around smart ticketing are rapidly changing. \nWhat does that mean for the smart ticketing market? How can the industry shift to a new environment requiring greater collaboration between suppliers\, and with combined authorities? And how do we ensure we are delivering technology that improves the passenger experience\, supports transport authorities in protecting their revenue and creates more seamless journeys across modes? \nThis roundtable\, at ITS UK’s headquarters in London\, will look at exactly these issues\, focusing on the opportunities and barriers to the roll out of smart ticketing: \n\nThe What? (What the changing landscape means for the sector): The impact of bus franchising\, creation of Great British Railways and devolution to combined authorities\nThe Why? (Why are we doing this): Integration between modes\, regions and schemes\, improving the passenger experience\, revenue protection\, increasing uptake for public transport.\nThe How? (How can the sector deliver smart ticketing): The shifting commercial environment as we move from single to modular supply chains and from closed to open loop systems\, greater collaboration between suppliers.\n\nThis event will take place on Monday 3 November from 10am to 1pm\, in London. Although in-person attendance is prefered\, an option to join online will be available. \nWith thanks to our sponsors: \n \n\nRegistration\nRegistration is now open\, and we are accepting one representative per member on a first come\, first served basis. To book your place please email contact@its-uk.org

SUMMARY:Executive Breakfast: AI and the future of the road network
DESCRIPTION:The need for smarter\, safer\, and more efficient transport systems has never been greater. Killed or seriously injured incidents (KSIs) on the road network are plateauing year-on-year\, congestion is rising across city regions and a tough fiscal environment at all levels of government means increasing pressures to deliver cost-effectively. \nMeanwhile\, with RIS3 currently under discussion\, and the Spending Review confirming £15.6 billion for city regions\, as well as further funding for towns and rural areas\, decisions will soon be made as to how these funding pots can best be used to tackle the challenges listed above. \nIn the UK\, the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and increased use of data analytics is helping offer new ways to address congestion\, reduce emissions\, and enhance road safety. A new Tranport AI Action Plan\, published over the summer\, has set out key steps the Government will be taking with industry to embed AI tools across the transport network. \nThis breakfast\, held on the second day of Highways UK\, invites ITS UK Executive Members to a morning roundtable discussing how AI will transform our road network. Held in the NEC’s Piazza 1\, a short walk from the show\, the roundtable will explore how transport authorities across the UK are utilising AI technology to deliver better outcomes for road users. \nWe offer one place per Executive Member on a first come\, first served basis. To register\, please email contact@its-uk.org. \nKeynote\nDavin Crowley-Sweet\nDirector of Digital Technical Competence\, National Highways \n \nDavin Crowley-Sweet is an internationally recognised data and technology leader\, currently serving as the Director of Digital Technical Competence at National Highways\, where he is responsible for transforming how the UK’s Strategic Road Network is designed\, built\, operated\, and experienced through the power of data & technology. \nAppointed as National Highways’ first Chief Data Officer\, Davin pioneered the UK’s first public sector enterprise-wide data valuation\, evidencing that the organisation’s data is worth over £60 billion—equivalent to half the value of the physical road network itself. This work has reshaped how data is governed\, valued\, and invested in across the public sector\, positioning data not just as a support function\, but as a strategic asset in its own right. \nIn recognition of his contributions\, Davin was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the King’s Birthday Honours 2025 for services to road safety. \nHe also serves on the Advisory Board of the Digital Twin Hub at Connected Places Catapult\, where he helps shape the UK’s national strategy for federated digital twins. His work in this space focuses on using connected digital twins to reimagine the built environment from the perspective of the businesses and society\, enabling more integrated\, responsive\, and intelligent infrastructure. \nWith a background spanning rail and road infrastructure\, Davin has and led award-winning programmes in data that include nationwide data improvement\, business transformation and leading the England wide deployment of Connected Vehicle Services. His work has consistently focused on embedding data into the heart of decision-making\, risk assurance\, and customer experience. \nWith thanks to our Sponsor:

SUMMARY:NAVIGATES Project Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Shape the future of autonomous mobility at the NAVIGATES Project Workshop.\nCenex\, in collaboration with Angoka and ITS UK\, is looking to invite industry representatives to a workshop as part of Project NAVIGATES (Networked Autonomous Vehicle Integration and Governance with Advanced Technology Security). \nFor No User in Charge (NUiC) operation\, the UK Automated Vehicles Act 2024 requires that\, in addition to the Authorised Self Driving Entity (ASDE) responsible for the vehicle’s driving behaviour and compliance\, there be a licensed NUiC operator responsible for the detection of\, and response to\, problems arising during NUiC operation. \nProject NAVIGATES is a collaborative study to examine the use cases\, feasibility and benefits of regional RSOCC (Remote Service Operator Control Centres) for the centralised management and co-ordination of autonomous vehicle activities. \nSimilar to air traffic control centres\, regional centres would oversee fleets of driverless vehicles operating with NUiC\, assisting the provision of coordinated services and offering economies of scale aiding the business case for the roll of out Connected Automated Mobility.  Project NAVIGATES is the first dedicated study in the UK to explore this model in detail. \nThe Workshop\nThis workshop will look to gather industry expertise and insights to define the operational and technical requirements\, develop a robust business case\, and outline the roadmap for centres in the UK. \nITS UK members are invited to attend\, with 25 spaces available for the workshop\, which will take place at CENEX Expo on Tuesday 3 September. Places are offered on a first come\, first served basis. \nThis event is run by CENEX and ANGOKA\, in partnership with ITS UK. \n  \nRegister here
