We’re delighted to see the Home Office launch this Call for Evidence\, which we urge industry to input into. ITS UK are supporting the Home Office to engage with industry and stakeholders in getting a wide scope of views. \n\nAbout the Call for Evidence \nThe Call for Evidence will support a review of HOTA for Road Traffic Law Enforcement Devices (RTLEDs) used by the police and other law enforcement agencies in Great Britain. The Call for Evidence is designed to gain insights into stakeholder experiences of HOTA and to invite any suggestions for improvements that the Home Office could consider. It launched on 15 January 2024\, two days before this event\, and will close on 14 February 2024. \nThe Call for Evidence will cover RTLEDs as described in “The Speedmeter\, Traffic Light and Prohibited Lane Enforcement Camera Handbook v2.0” The Handbook contains a description of the technical requirements to be met for consideration of type-approval of certain types of speed\, traffic light and prohibited lane enforcement equipment which are prescribed devices for the purposes of the road traffic legislation. HOTA of breath testing devices and drug-testing devices are out of scope of this Call for Evidence. \nYou can find the Call for Evidence here. Following the success of the first event in April\, the Big ITS Conversation returns to put local authorities and public sector organisations in touch with ITS providers. \nThe Big ITS Conversation is a major virtual networking event using an online technology platform\, where local authority and regional transport body representatives will be able to speak to a selection of intelligent transport providers over Zoom. He is responsible for delivering the priorities and objectives set out in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy and TfL Business Plan. \nAndy joined TfL in November 2019\, as Managing Director London Underground having started his career with British Airways as a sponsored undergraduate in 1989\, gaining an honours degree in mechanical engineering from Manchester University. His career saw him take on roles across engineering\, operations and customer service\, culminating as Director of Operations and member of the Executive Leadership Team for just over seven years. DESCRIPTION:In November\, the Government held an international AI Safety Summit\, bringing together industry and international governments to understand how AI can be developed safely. Following the Summit\, the parties involved published the Bletchley Declaration\, highlighting that there is “a unique moment to act and affirm the need for the safe development of AI and for the transformative opportunities of AI to be used for good and for all\, in an inclusive manner in our countries and globally”. \nThe ITS UK Data Forum session\, taking place on 6 December\, will ask what the Summit and Declaration mean for transport. DESCRIPTION:SMEs constitute 99% of all companies in the UK\, making them of critical importance to the economy. In transport\, SMEs and start-ups are vital across all modes\, providing products and services to all parts of sector\, acting as a source of new thinking and ideas and supporting jobs and investment in local communities. \nTransport technology has long benefited from its many start-ups\, spin-offs and small businesses\, but it is vital that the industry continues to support these organisations\, providing the right environment for them to flourish and grow. For these companies\, having visibility of upcoming work\, clear and accessible procurement processes and understanding of how transport authorities and multi-national organisations can work with them\, is critical. \nThe ITS UK SME and Start-Up Conference seeks to explore how we can create the right environment from which smaller transport technology businesses can thrive. He also works with SMEs to encourage them to think about pitching for both central government contracts and other opportunities across the wider public sector. \nMartin has extensive experience in the leisure and hospitality sector\, following a successful career in hotel management. In 2001 Martin decided to change career to take up the role of Group Chief Executive of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce (including CEO of Business Link\, Leicestershire). \nAfter leaving the Chamber in 2014\, he set up his own consultancy business which he combines with several key Non-Executive roles. \nIn the 2007\, Martin was awarded an OBE in HM The Queen’s New Year’s Honours for “Services to business and the community of the East Midlands”. \nSteve Sopp \nTransport Strategy Commercial Lead – Technology Pillar\, Crown Commercial Service \nSteve is the transport technology strategy lead at the Crown Commercial Service (CCS)\, the biggest public procurement organisation in the UK. Steve joined CCS in February 2022 after a public sector career encompassing many transport and innovation related roles\, including as relationship manager for an industry led programme to fund low carbon propulsion technologies\, as the Innovate UK transport lead for the UK’s Small Business Research Initiative\, as a senior policy advisor at the Intellectual Property Office\, and as Head of a Vehicle Primary Safety at the Department for Transport. Steve has led international negotiations on transport topics\, and was chair of a UN vehicle standards working group. Steve graduated from the University of the West of England with a first class honours degree in engineering and has also completed a post graduate diploma in Intellectual property law. \nCatherine Whitfield \nAssociate Director (ITS)\, WSP & ITS UK Vice Chair \nCatherine is an Associate Director within the ITS business at WSP. She has over 20 years’ experience working in the intelligent transport industry\, helping clients overcome challenges\, unlock potential and create new solutions. She specialises in the operational\, user and business elements of Intelligent Transport Systems\, providing an interface between organisational needs and the detailed technical and operational solutions that meet them. \nOver her career she has worked with a range of organisations including National Highways\, the Department for Transport\, Transport Scotland and the Dubai Transport Authority\, helping them formulate and implement strategic programmes of work to deliver a step change in customer experience and safety. Catherine is a keen advocate for increasing diversity within our industry\, across all characteristics\, including academic background. She spent six years living and working in the Middle East\, with the Department for International Trade as a Trade & Investment Advisor. She is currently working on projects focusing on the wider-decarbonisation of transport from a trade and investment perspective. \n\nStefano Mainero\, EPN Consulting \nStefano has over 25 years of experience in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)\, Sustainable Transport and European Projects. He has a 5-year degree in Electronic Engineering awarded by the Politecnico di Torino University (Turin\, Italy) and decades of experience in the Consulting industry that helped him build a wide network of professional relationships across Europe. In 2009 in London he founded the consulting firm EPN Consulting Ltd. \nSince 2007 Stefano collaborates with the European Commission (EC) as Expert Evaluator\, Rapporteur and Reviewer of Transport Projects. DESCRIPTION:UK rail has long been a pioneer for new technologies and innovations. Yet\, as the world enters a new age of digital connectivity\, data and AI\, it is vital that rail is able to keep up with emerging technological trends. Whether in the areas of digital signalling\, data and AI or smart ticketing and retail\, there is much more that can be done to ensure rail is fit for the future. \nWith Control Period 7 beginning and a General Election in 2024\, now is the time to get started. The next decade will be pivotal – rail will need to focus on how it can make better use of data and AI\, switch to digital signalling systems and deliver a modern fares system\, in order to ensure the network is future ready. The coming ten years should be a ‘Digital Decade for Rail’. \nThe Digital Decade for Rail Summit is a new event organised jointly by the Railway Industry Association (RIA)\, the voice of the rail supply community\, and Intelligent Transport Systems UK (ITS UK)\, the industry association for transport technology. It will seek to provide industry with views from leading decision makers in the rail sector and to gather industry views in order to kick-start the ‘Digital Decade for Rail’ campaign\, a new initiative to promote a digital future for UK rail. \nThe Summit will take place on Wednesday 27 September from 10am to 3pm at the Derby Museum of Making. Lauren created TfL’s Data and Analytics department\, building a team of data scientists\, data software developers\, and analytics translators who provide data tools for TfL to understand customer travel behavior\, and analytic tools to operate and plan London’s vast transport network. Her team’s analysis was instrumental during the challenges during Coronavirus\, providing TfL\, London city officials\, UK Government\, and the public with information about how travel changed during the Pandemic. Lauren joined TfL in 2002 and she’s held a variety of roles\, working on many projects\, including the launch of the contactless payment system across London’s transport network. Originally from Washington\, DC\, USA\, she has degrees from Princeton University and from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government\, who awarded Lauren the 2019 Alumni Award for Digital Innovation. Lauren was named the 2017 UK Chief Data Officer of the year by the CDO Club\, and was honoured to be included in The Female Lead’s 20 role models in Data & Technology 2017. \nToufic Machnouk\, Director\, Industry Partnership for Digital Railway \nToufic Machnouk is Director\, Industry Partnership for Digital Railway where he is leading a pioneering cross-industry partnership to create and deliver the next generation railway enabled through digital train control technology. \nThis represents a once in a generation modernisation of the railways in Great Britain to a safer\, higher performing\, more resilient\, better skilled\, more productive\, and greener railway\, delivering passenger benefits in the areas of safety\, punctuality and resilience\, and taxpayer benefits in the areas of reduction in infrastructure unit and whole life costs. \nThe first major programme is on the east coast mainline\, a primary economic artery\, which has been  established in an innovative user centric industry and commercial partnership model that is the vanguard for digital train control technology deployment on the national railway network. \nHaving started his career in infrastructure operations\, he went on to deliver major projects and programmes. His teams have been recognised for breakthroughs in safety performance\, innovation\, industry and supplier collaboration\, and successfully delivering complex cross-industry change\, receiving prestigious national awards. \nHe is passionate about open innovation and user centric design thinking\, speaking at universities and colleges\, and mentoring people from across the industry. He holds a degree in Design Engineering and an executive MBA from the University of Bath. He was awarded the prestigious Collaborative Leadership Award by the Institute for Collaborative Working. \n \nNeil Shah\, IT & Digital Director\, Arriva UK Trains \nNeil Shah is the IT & Digital Director at Arriva UK Trains with a remit that ranges from core operational IT through to the digital customer experience. Neil is responsible for developing Arriva UK Trains’ digital\, data and technology strategies in order to support the business strategy. Neil is passionate about driving step change in IT\, Digital and Data capability along with people development. \nWith over 22 years’ experience\, Neil is a digital strategy\, transformation and change leader with experience working across the entire business\, product\, commercial and programme lifecycle. Neil has been at Arriva for nearly 6 years\, starting in the UK Bus business and now in the UK Trains business. Previous industry experience includes travel & tourism\, retail and shipping & logistics meaning Neil hopes to bring external best practice to the transport industry. \n  \n \nMatt Peake\, UK Policy Director and Government Relations\, Trainline  \nMatt is Director of UK Policy and Government Relations at Trainline. Prior to Trainline\, he led the global policy team at Onfido\, the UK-based digital identity scale-up specialising in AI and biometrics. He has previously held tech policy-focused roles at Verizon\, Ofcom and the Home Office. Matt holds a law degree\, exec MBA\, post-graduate diploma in Competition Law from Kings College and diploma in Business International Relations and the Political Economy from the LSE. He is married with three children. \nMartin Howell\, Director of Transport Markets\, Worldline UK&I \n \nMartin Howell is Director of Transport Markets\, UK and Ireland for Worldline\, and leads their work in smart mobility and strategy for transport.  He was previously vice president at Cubic Corporation in San Diego. He spent 12 years with Cubic Transportation Systems\, in operations and business development\, as well as leading the company’s customer engagement\, external relations and interfaces with government. His previous roles have included business development at HP Enterprise\, before which he served as an officer in the Royal Marines Commandos. \nProfessor Clive Roberts\, Director of Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education\, University of Birmingham \nClive is Professor of Railway Systems and Deputy Head of the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham. He is Director of the University’s Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education\, which has over 120 researchers\, academics and staff. He works extensively with the rail industry and academia in Britain and overseas\, on research and innovation themes which span the railway system\, transport systems and associated technologies. \nClive leads a broad portfolio of research aimed at improving the performance of railway systems\, including leading the UK Railway Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN)\, a £92M academia/industry collaboration\, as well as initiatives to encourage SMEs to work in the rail sector. In 2017 his group was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education for supporting the UK and international railway industries. His main research interests lie in the areas of railway systems research including: railway simulation\, future control strategies\, traffic management and operations\, condition monitoring\, data integration and cybersecurity\, power system design and energy efficiency\, and overall system integration.

The Webinars are held in partnership with the Transport Technology Forum. \nThe webinar will take place at 2pm on the 25 September and will look at the changing global markets\, with our expert speakers unpacking some international perspectives and future innovations. \nSpeaker line-up: \n\nJoost Vantomme\, CEO of ERTICO\n\n\nTim Wray\, Head of Systems\, YUNEX\n\n\nNiosha Kayhani\, Cubic and ITS UK International Director\n\nAbout the Speakers \nJoost Vantomme\, CEO of ERTICO \nJoost is a Belgian national with 30 years of experience in legal and regulatory policy affairs combined with a strong track in strategy and project management. He served as legal and regulatory affairs director with incumbent operators in the telecommunications\, postal\, eCommerce/logistics and automotive sectors. He had leading policy-making roles in European associations such as PostEurop\, FEDMA\, and ACEA as well as at the United Nations level (UPU). Joost has also been a member of the cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Economy and director at Hill+Knowlton Strategies\, an EU consultancy firm. \nBefore joining ERTICO in January 2022 as Chief Executive Officer\, he was the Smart Mobility Director of ACEA for over five years. Joost held positions as chair of the Strategy Committee of ERTICO-ITS Europe as well as a member of its Supervisory Board. He serves also as a member of the Board and Vice President of the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Alliance. \nAs a frequent speaker at conferences and author of papers\, he engages with stakeholders on European and international policy issues and research and innovation project management issues in mobility and digital agenda context. \nFluent in Dutch\, French\, English and German\, Joost holds a Master’s Degree in Economic Business Law\, a Master’s Degree in law and a Diploma in Teaching Law (Universities of Leuven\, Poitiers and Louvain-la-Neuve). He gained additional education in the economic\, business and management areas. \nNiosha Kayhani\, Cubic and ITS UK International Director \nNiosha is the ITS UK International Director and leads on building the reputation and profile of ITS UK internationally to build networks\, influence policy\, support international cooperation on ITS and to create opportunities for the association. \nHe has helped to facilitate and host multiple international delegations\, sign memorandums of understanding with global institutions and helped achieve year on year growth of the institute inside and outside of the UK. \nTim Wray\, Head of Systems\, YUNEX \nTim has been driving new business development for over 18 years within the Transportation\, Road User Charging & ITS markets. His key clients include all major Rail / Bus companies\, Transport for London\, Transport for the North\, Highways England\, Transport Scotland & Network Rail.

DESCRIPTION:The ITS UK Advocacy & Public Affairs Group is our main forum for the discussion of policy\, comms and public affairs issues. At Hanbury\, Niamh leads the Self-Driving APPG Secretariat team\, working to build support across Whitehall for automated vehicles and adjacent policy issues that are critical to achieving the UK’s technology ambitions. \nFrances Williamson\, Head of Stakeholder Engagement\, Zenzic \nFrances Williamson is Head of Stakeholder Engagement. at Zenzic\, a non-profit funded by government and industry to champion the UK’s leadership in the development and deployment of Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM). \nAs part of the leadership team Frances spearheads collaboration across the emerging CAM supply chain. With her team she supports all of Zenzic’s funded projects to build a truly collaborative CAM network encompassing a diverse set of stakeholders from across government\, industry and academia. \nWith over two decades of experience in policy\, industry engagement\, and communications\, Frances brings valuable expertise to her role. Prior to joining Zenzic\, she contributed to the energy sector’s efforts in creating decentralised\, democratised and digitised energy systems for UK consumers. \nKit Golda\, Stakeholder Engagement Lead\, Zenzic (they/them) \nKit Golda is Stakeholder Engagement lead at Zenzic where they work to bring organisations and their people together to collaborate on the challenges and opportunities of the emerging Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) ecosystem. \nWith many years’ experience in business development and leadership roles Kit has worked in startups\, corporates and non-profits helping them to define and deliver innovation and change programmes
