SUMMARY:SME & Start-Up Conference
DESCRIPTION:SMEs constitute 99% of all companies in the UK\, making them of critical importance to the economy. In transport\, SMEs and start-ups are vital across all modes\, providing products and services to all parts of sector\, acting as a source of new thinking and ideas and supporting jobs and investment in local communities. \nTransport technology has long benefited from its many start-ups\, spin-offs and small businesses\, but it is vital that the industry continues to support these organisations\, providing the right environment for them to flourish and grow. For these companies\, having visibility of upcoming work\, clear and accessible procurement processes and understanding of how transport authorities and multi-national organisations can work with them\, is critical. \nThe ITS UK SME and Start-Up Conference seeks to explore how we can create the right environment from which smaller transport technology businesses can thrive. SUMMARY:Digital Decade for Rail Summit
DESCRIPTION:UK rail has long been a pioneer for new technologies and innovations. Yet\, as the world enters a new age of digital connectivity\, data and AI\, it is vital that rail is able to keep up with emerging technological trends. Whether in the areas of digital signalling\, data and AI or smart ticketing and retail\, there is much more that can be done to ensure rail is fit for the future. \nWith Control Period 7 beginning and a General Election in 2024\, now is the time to get started. The next decade will be pivotal – rail will need to focus on how it can make better use of data and AI\, switch to digital signalling systems and deliver a modern fares system\, in order to ensure the network is future ready. The coming ten years should be a ‘Digital Decade for Rail’. \nThe Digital Decade for Rail Summit is a new event organised jointly by the Railway Industry Association (RIA)\, the voice of the rail supply community\, and Intelligent Transport Systems UK (ITS UK)\, the industry association for transport technology. It will seek to provide industry with views from leading decision makers in the rail sector and to gather industry views in order to kick-start the ‘Digital Decade for Rail’ campaign\, a new initiative to promote a digital future for UK rail. \nThe Summit will take place on Wednesday 27 September from 10am to 3pm at the Derby Museum of Making. The day will cover three key themes: 1. Digital Signalling 2. Data & AI and 3. SUMMARY:ITS & Automotive: Clash of the Systems
DESCRIPTION:Following a recent MoU\, AESIN and ITS UK are proud to jointly host their first workshop addressing the challenges and opportunities of a future of greater system integration of vehicles and infrastructure. The event will take place ahead of the MOVE trade show in London (21 to 22 June 2023). \nAttendees will hear presentations of use cases with different viewpoints: \n\nNew ITS applications and the vehicle solutions to enable these.\nNew vehicle functionalities and the challenges placed on PDI.\n\nGrowing software and electronics content in vehicles and road infrastructure are leading to greater intelligence and capabilities of the systems. This trajectory will continue\, including rising infrastructure dependency of some autonomy. \nHowever\, much of the associated data resides at organisations with established business models and customers. Concerns exist about greater system integration of vehicles and infrastructure\, about sharing data and resolving privacy\, about who pays for it\, and uncertainty over valuing and monetising system aspects with new customer relationships. But if these concerns can be overcome\, there are functionality and commercial opportunities to be unlocked for both vehicle and infrastructure stakeholders. \nAs new commercial partnerships develop\, with varying services and customers\, the historically siloed communities from roads and vehicles need more collaboration. \nBreakout sessions will explore technical challenges\, business incentives\, and emerging solutions\, with the aim of producing a short paper as an output from the session. \nThis event is organised jointly with AESIN:

SUMMARY:Connected cars in London – the key to a smart city?
DESCRIPTION:As part of London Tech Week 2023\,  ITS UK and techUK will explore how London is making use of data from connected vehicles to become one of the world’s smartest cities. \nModern cars\, sometimes referred to as “data centres on wheels” are now capable of gathering and processing vast quantities of data. Meanwhile\, ever-advancing connectivity infrastructures are enabling vehicles to communicate with each other\, and their surrounding infrastructure. \nJoin us to uncover how London\, a city urgently tackling road safety\, congestion\, and air quality issues\, is making use of this technology. \nWe will examine the approach to key questions including: \n\nWhat use-cases is London developing through the proliferation of connected vehicle data?\nDo we have the capabilities to process data at the scale required?\nHow do we ensure adequate connectivity across the city?\nWhat risks does the increase in connected vehicles expose us to?\nAre connected cars really the key to London becoming a smart city?\nSpaces are limited so sign-up now to avoid disappointment.\n\nThis event is open to all. Please register via techUK’s website here. \nOrganised in partnership with techUK \n \nAbout London Tech Week: London Tech Week (12-16 June) is a global celebration of tech\, uniting the most innovative thinkers and talent of tomorrow in a week-long festival. Showcasing how tech is transforming business and society\, London Tech Week drives thought provoking conversations around innovation\, diversity and transformation\, providing a platform for the tech ecosystem to come together to drive change.
