SUMMARY:The Big ITS Conversation
DESCRIPTION:The Big ITS Conversation is back! Following the success of the first event in April\, the Big ITS Conversation returns to put local authorities and public sector organisations in touch with ITS providers. \nThe Big ITS Conversation is a major virtual networking event using an online technology platform\, where local authority and regional transport body representatives will be able to speak to a selection of intelligent transport providers over Zoom. The public sector representatives host virtual tables where ITS companies can come and meet them for short\, informal meetings. \nBefore the event\, the public sector representatives provide short challenge statements\, listing in broad terms the challenges they are facing that intelligent transport could help resolve. The statements help make the networking as valuable as possible\, ensuring the event is as effective as possible. \nThe Challenge Statements are now available here. \nWho’s Attending?\nWe have public sector table hosts confirmed from: \n\nEast West Rail\nTransport for London\nTransport for the West Midlands\nBus Centre of Excellence\nConnected Places Catapult\nTransport for Greater Manchester\nReading Borough Council\nCoventry City Council\nGlasgow City Council\nDepartment for Infrastructure (NI)\n\nKeynote Speaker\nAnthony Ferguson \nDeputy Director\, Traffic & Technology\, Department for Transport \nAnthony is a Deputy Director in the Department for Transport in charge of Traffic & Technology. This role encompasses traditional traffic management policy\, involving things like the way roadworks are planned and carried out\, parking regulations\, the rules for traffic signs and the Blue Badge scheme. His role also involves exploring the potential for data and emerging technology to improve the safety\, efficiency and environmental performance of our road networks.  Anthony’s team runs the Street Manager digital service and is leading work on digitalisation of traffic orders and building the National Parking Platform. They are also responsible for developing the UK’s policy position on micromobility and managing national trials of e-scooters. \nRegister here

We’re delighted to see the Home Office launch this Call for Evidence\, which we urge industry to input into. ITS UK are supporting the Home Office to engage with industry and stakeholders in getting a wide scope of views. \n\nAbout the Call for Evidence \nThe Call for Evidence will support a review of HOTA for Road Traffic Law Enforcement Devices (RTLEDs) used by the police and other law enforcement agencies in Great Britain. The Call for Evidence is designed to gain insights into stakeholder experiences of HOTA and to invite any suggestions for improvements that the Home Office could consider. It launched on 15 January 2024\, two days before this event\, and will close on 14 February 2024. \nThe Call for Evidence will cover RTLEDs as described in “The Speedmeter\, Traffic Light and Prohibited Lane Enforcement Camera Handbook v2.0” The Handbook contains a description of the technical requirements to be met for consideration of type-approval of certain types of speed\, traffic light and prohibited lane enforcement equipment which are prescribed devices for the purposes of the road traffic legislation. HOTA of breath testing devices and drug-testing devices are out of scope of this Call for Evidence. \nYou can find the Call for Evidence here. Please note\, this page will be in draft form until the Call for Evidence is launched on 15 January. \n\nWhat is HOTA? \nHOTA provides assurance that the device is accurate\, precise\, consistent and reliable and that its evidence can be relied on. Under section 20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988\, in proceedings concerning certain traffic offences* records or measurements made by police equipment for traffic law enforcement can admissible as evidence subject to the following conditions: the equipment is a type approved by the Secretary of State and that any conditions subject to which the approval was given are satisfied. \nRegister to attend here\n  \n* The offences are listed in s20(2) Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988
