Response to Marketing Terms for AVs
The Act gives the Secretary of State for Transport the power to protect certain terms, so that they can only be used to market vehicles authorised as being automated (self-driving). Protected terms must not be used to market driver assistance systems. The intention is that only authorised vehicles will be allowed to be marketed using protected terms (for example ‘self-driving’, if this term is specified in the regulations)
In its response, ITS UK highlights where additional issues with terms may arise, and how the Government can ensure automated vehicles are advertised and promoted responsibly.
