• Yunex Traffic has been awarded a five-year contract with Northern Ireland’s Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to continue maintenance and development of the authorities UTC and UTMC systems.
• The contract covers the authorities hosted UTC-UX urban traffic control and Stratos urban traffic management and control solutions. 
• This solution keeps Northern Ireland’s traffic flowing, safely and efficiently, minimising congestion and pollution.  

Yunex Traffic has been awarded a new five-year contract by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in Northern Ireland. The agreement covers the maintenance and ongoing development of the region’s Urban Traffic Control (UTC) and management and control (UTMC) systems, the majority of which are located in Belfast.  

Under the contract, Yunex Traffic will maintain the DfI’s hosted UTC-UX and Stratos platforms. Seamlessly integrated, and connecting 328 sites, these solutions provide the DfI with a fully-managed, cloud-based service, enabling efficient traffic control and management across Northern Ireland’s road network, now and into the future. 

Commenting on the award, Wilke Reints, Managing Director of Yunex Traffic in the UK, said: “We are proud of our long-standing relationship with the DfI. Since 1991 we have been responsible for maintaining a range of traffic technology across Northern Ireland, with our locally-based, 20-strong, team maintaining more than 1,200 sites, including junctions, intersections and pedestrian crossings.

Hosted traffic management solution 

UTC-UX combines traditional traffic control with advanced features such as fixed-time and SCOOT^® adaptive control, public transport prioritisation, and queue and congestion detection. Operating directly from an HTML5 web browser, it enables the DfI to take a consistent approach to traffic signal management and control, with the system’s remote monitoring and fault management capabilities significantly reducing the number of maintenance visits needed, improving operational efficiency.  

Yunex Traffic’s Stratos traffic management suite operates seamlessly with UTC-UX to provide the DfI with a fully integrated, hosted urban traffic management and control solution. Stratos provides a comprehensive set of powerful tools for real-time monitoring and intelligent decision-making, 24/7, playing a crucial role in keeping Northern Ireland’s traffic flowing safely and efficiently, and minimising congestion and pollution.
