Wesley Bateson
UK & Ireland Country Lead, AISIN RoadTrace
Wesley works at the intersection of transport technology, data and public sector delivery, with a focus on helping organisations use evidence more effectively to support safer and more resilient transport networks.
He is the UK and Ireland Country Lead for AISIN RoadTrace, the connected vehicle data and analytics capability within Aisin, a global Tier 1 automotive manufacturer supplying safety critical systems and software to the world’s leading vehicle OEMs. In this role, Wesley supports the application of large scale mobility and driver behaviour data to inform transport strategy, infrastructure planning and operational decision making across the UK and Ireland.
Wesley works closely with national and local authorities, police, road safety partnerships and transport bodies, supporting projects that range from early stage pilots through to national and regional programmes. His experience includes working alongside policy teams, operational leads and delivery partners to help translate complex datasets into insights that can realistically be used within existing processes, governance structures and resource constraints.
A core part of Wesley’s work involves supporting decision makers to understand how emerging data sources can complement traditional evidence such as collision records, surveys and inspections. His focus is on practical application rather than theory, helping organisations identify where data adds genuine value, where its limitations lie and how it can be used responsibly without reliance on personal or identifiable information.
Wesley has particular experience in bridging the gap between ambition and delivery. He regularly works with organisations navigating challenges around capability, procurement, data literacy and organisational readiness He understands the practical barriers that can prevent new technology or data led approaches from delivering their intended outcomes.
Through his work, Wesley aims to support constructive collaboration between industry, government and the wider ITS community. He brings a grounded perspective shaped by direct engagement with delivery teams and decision makers and is motivated by helping the sector focus on approaches that are achievable, measurable and aligned with long term improvements in transport safety and performance.
