Senior Operational Technology Solution Architect, 4way Consulting
David Martin is a systems architect and technical authority with over 35 years’ experience in intelligent transportation systems and digital infrastructure. Since 2024, he serves as Senior Operational Technology Solution Architect at 4way Consulting, developing strategies, roadmaps, and technical specifications for operational technology products and solutions within National Highways.
In his current role at 4way, David has helped lead the successful implementation of a new ISO 27001 Information Security Management System to protect business and customer data assets. Achieving formal certification in autumn 2025, this demonstrates his capability to establish and embed security governance frameworks within operational environments.
On the technology front, Davids recent work leading the design, development and assessment of innovative AI Agents for use in Knowledge Management Systems, has allowed him to further develop his knowledge of AI tools and techniques, and the unique opportunities and challenges generative AI brings.
His expertise spans multiple domains critical to digital transport. In data management and analytics, he has architected information management systems using Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Tableau, and SAP Business Objects. He served as Requirements Authority for the Optimised Public Transport Integration System (OPTIS) in Greater Manchester and has provided technical leadership and guidance in many other major public sector delivery contracts.
His systems engineering background encompasses formal systems governance, architectural modelling, and business process design. He has led technical teams through major transformation programmes, including ITIL-aligned service delivery transitions and legacy system modernisation. His experience spans both strategic technical roadmap development and hands-on operational delivery.
Prior to joining 4way, David held the position of Technical Design Authority for Transport Scotland’s Traffic Scotland Systems Contract from 2018, managing governance and assurance of technical specifications across a complex portfolio of traffic management systems. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
