George Lunt

Technical Director, AECOM

George Lunt is a Technical Director at AECOM and a nationally recognised leader in intelligent mobility, with over 25 years of experience spanning new mobility, integrated transport systems, micromobility, Mobility as a Service (MaaS), connected and autonomous mobility (CAM), traffic management, and multimodal journey planning. A Fellow of the CIHT, George is known for combining strategic insight with deep technical expertise, leading complex programmes that shape future mobility across the UK, Ireland, and internationally.

At AECOM, George plays a pivotal leadership role within the Technology Services business and is responsible for developing and growing the company’s market presence across the West of England. He currently oversees a client portfolio delivering £10M annually and leads AECOM’s New Mobility growth area work. He is characterised by an ability to translate emerging mobility trends into practical, evidence based strategies and real world deployments.

George has become a leading UK expert in micromobility, most notably through his direction of the West of England e scooter and integrated micromobility programme – the largest and most successful micromobility operation in the UK. Under his leadership, AECOM supported the scheme’s strategy, governance, procurement, and evaluation, securing significant revenue back to the Combined Authority for reinvestment. He continues to advise multiple authorities on micromobility service design, procurement frameworks, and operational best practice.

His expertise extends across all aspects of Intelligent Mobility and MaaS. George is Project Director for the West of England Future Transport Zone (FTZ) Transport Data Hub, creating a regionwide single source of truth for multi modal transport data, including bus ticketing, micromobility, EV charging, and real time traffic information. He also leads monitoring and evaluation across the FTZ programme, including household travel surveys and evaluation of the region’s MaaS platform. His work combines technical understanding of digital platforms, governance and commercial models, and user centred service design.
Internationally, George has delivered strategic advisory work for the National Transport Authority (Ireland), including national frameworks for micromobility procurement and the design of a major Mobility Hubs Pilot, integrating shared mobility, EV car share, digital interfaces, and multimodal interchange planning. His experience also includes national scale smart mobility programmes in Saudi Arabia and CAV research and deployment projects for European Commission directorates, Transport for West Midlands, Dublin Airport, and multiple UK and Irish authorities.

George brings extensive leadership experience from managing large technical teams – including AECOM’s 100 strong UK microsimulation group – and has contributed significantly to industry best practice in modelling, data driven transport management, and real time system design. He has served as an expert witness, chaired and moderated international conference sessions, and spoken widely on autonomous vehicles, MaaS deployment, and mobility innovation.

An inclusive leader and highly effective communicator, George is committed to shaping a future transport system that is integrated, user focused, data driven, and sustainable. His work continues to influence national policy, local authority strategy, and the next generation of intelligent mobility services across the UK and beyond.
