I have nearly 30 years experience in Public Transportation and transport technology.

I spent over 2 decades at Bus, Coach, and Rail operator National Express (now Mobico) where I specified, delivered and used a variety of technologies, including ticketing (including CBT and cEMV) and AVL in multiple markets. Whilst at National Express, I also spent a number of years working in “Pure” IT, which has been great for building context and opening up the art of the possible.

Following my time at National Express, I went to Vix Technology, where I spent nearly 5 years as Product Director for 3 products, including on-bus and in station ticketing and validation, Rail TIS, and AVL/RTPI. I managed both the product function, but also the engineering resource that developed the products, and I’m really proud that my team delivered a new product (including Smart gates and a whole new RTPI/CMS) into production each year. Every product took advantage of emerging standards and technology, building cloud native and adopting ITxPT practices and MQTT queuing effectively.

Since leaving Vix, I have set up my own independent consultancy where my focus is helping demystify transport technology for local authorities and operators, helping technology companies put their best product proposition forward, and helping companies generally get the best from their technology teams.
