Project Principal Intelligent Transport Systems, Mott MacDonald
Simon Goodred is a Project Principal (Intelligent Transport Systems) in Mott MacDonald’s Transport and Mobility Solutions division. He manages and provides oversight on projects for key Mott MacDonald clients based in the UK.
After a BSc in Geography, Simon has gained over 21 years’ experience of working within transport technology consultancy teams, supporting both the public and private sector customers. Before joining Mott MacDonald, Simon worked as a project manager for Bristol City Council in their fledgling Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) team. He was responsible for delivering a range of innovative projects and ITS initiatives including elements of traffic signal design, Urban Traffic Control (UTC) operation, Variable Message Signs (VMS) installation, development and management of Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) systems.
Upon joining Mott MacDonald Simon worked as a project manager on numerous Highways Agency research and development projects which included a worldwide investigative task to identify, visit and assess hard shoulder monitoring technologies and systems for potential application on the motorway network.
Other notable projects include the Maintenance Assistance Vehicle (MAV) where Simon provided technical and process input to a Highways England commission to develop a prototype specialist vehicle to support the maintenance of gantry mounted motorway speed enforcement signs, and the M42 Junction 6 scheme design where Simon provided programme management and technical support into the technology design elements for the Highways England M42 J6 improvements and major road project.
In the earlier stages of his Mott MacDonald career, Simon was seconded into the Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald Joint Venture Area 2 EMAC as a project manager responsible for the delivery of multiple transportation civil engineering and technology asset schemes, from the early design phases through to construction.
Simon is currently working as Service Delivery Manager (SDM) (and Mott MacDonald project manager) on a five year National Highways technology support contract titled the Site Data Tools and Services (SDTS) project. Prior to his role on the SDTS contract Simon was the Project Co-ordinator (and MM project manager) for its predecessor the Technology Software Systems (TSS) project which commenced in 2012.
In recent years Simon’s responsibilities have diversified into both framework management and account leadership, incorporating roles as the Mott MacDonald Framework Manager for the National Highways Specialist Professional and Technical Services 2 (SPaTS2) Framework and SES Account Lead for Mott MacDonald TMS division.
Simon has an MSc in Technology Management from the Open University, is a Prince 2 Practitioner and has completed the National Highways Roads Academy Aspiring Leaders programme.
