  • Following a full competitive tender, Rhondda Cynon Taf Borough Council has awarded a four-year Traffic Signal Maintenance contract to Yunex Traffic.
  • The contract will be managed locally by Yunex Traffic’s regional hub in Treforest, with its experienced team delivering a full range of planned and reactive maintenance services.
  • The contract will help ensure the region’s residents, businesses, and visitors will benefit from reliable, high-performance traffic control systems, reducing delays and improving safety, journey times, and air quality.
  • Strong social value commitment, including 40 local work experience placements and enhanced accessibility and road safety initiatives.

Yunex Traffic has been awarded a contract by Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Borough Council for the maintenance of traffic control and associated equipment across the Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, and Merthyr Tydfil local authority areas.  Awarded following a full competitive tender, the contract came into force on 1 June 2026 and will run for an initial four-year period – with an option to extend for up to two more years.

Yunex Traffic will be responsible for maintaining critical traffic signal and control infrastructure across all three council areas, supporting road safety, network efficiency, and reliable transport operations. Service delivery will be managed locally from the company’s Treforest depot, an established base providing 24-hour coverage, out-of-hours subcontractor support, and rapid response capability, to ensure the infrastructure continues to operate with high levels of reliability and performance.  The contract scope includes routine and preventative maintenance, emergency fault response, system upgrades, and the delivery of new infrastructure from Yunex Traffic’s portfolio of sustainable and energy-efficient solutions.

Reinforcing the company’s focus on sustainability and local engagement, the contract also includes social value initiatives.  These include providing 40 work experience placements for the local community, the offer to build a pedestrian crossing at a new SEND school in Clydach Vale, additional checks on traffic signals to ensure they are up to standard for people with disabilities and helping to teach road safety awareness in local primary schools.

Wilke Reints, Managing Director Yunex Traffic UK, said: “We are delighted to have been selected to work with these local authorities across South Wales, with our Treforest depot enabling us to deliver a responsive, high-quality local service.  From there, our experienced field engineers will provide routine maintenance and scheme design upgrades, supported by our specialist managed services team from our Poole headquarters.  We look forward to working closely with the authorities’ teams and providing a comprehensive, coordinated one-stop-shop service for the region’s traffic signal and control operations.”

The thriving region is undergoing significant transformation, with a number of multi-million pound regeneration projects driving growth.  Efficient transport links and seamless connectivity will play a key role in this ongoing development programme, with efficient, robust and reliable road networks vital to its continued economic growth and competitiveness.
