ITS North leadership announced
ITS North has announced its three Co-Chairs, ahead of its wider establishment this year.
ITS North is the regional community of ITS UK for Northern England, bringing together the people and organisations shaping the future of intelligent transport across the region.
From transport authorities and operators to technology providers, SMEs, academia and the wider transport profession, ITS North will connect the expertise, experience and innovation already thriving across the North, creating a community where knowledge is shared, collaboration happens and innovation is translated into real-world delivery.
Its ambition is clear: To strengthen the Northern voice and help establish Northern England as a UK benchmark for intelligent transport collaboration, innovation and delivery.
Chairs
The Group will be co-chaired by Sean Fryer of Tees Valley Combined Authority; Stuart Wilson of Nicander; and Peter Simm of Mobius Networks.
Sean Fryer
Sean is Digital Transport Delivery Manager and Intelligent Transport Systems Lead at Tees Valley Combined Authority, where he leads the strategic development and delivery of major digital transport and ITS programmes. Sean’s experience includes leading business case development for the Tees Valley’s £70 million ITS investment programme, alongside the delivery of major intelligent transport initiatives including the UK’s first fully operational, region-wide automated Traffic Digital Twin and one of the UK’s largest commercial deployments of FUSION adaptive traffic signal control. Based in Darlington, Sean is passionate about translating innovation into real-world transport outcomes. As Co-Chair of ITS North, he is focused on strengthening collaboration, sharing practical experience and helping establish Northern England as a benchmark for intelligent transport innovation and delivery.
Stuart Wilson
Stuart is Head of ITS Consultancy at Nicander and an Industry Chair for ITS UK North. Born and raised in Middlesbrough, within the Tees Valley Combined Authority region, Stuart has spent most of his life, education and career in the North East, giving him a deep understanding of the region’s transport landscape. He is passionate about technology and innovation and equally passionate about industry collaboration in delivering ITS solutions that genuinely meet regional needs. Stuart believes the North East’s unique challenges call for locally-driven expertise, and is proud to help bring the region’s talent together to shape the future of transport.
Peter Simm
Peter is a proud Mancunian, Strategic Business Manager at Mobius Networks and Chair of ITS North. He has more than 25 years’ experience delivering fixed and mobile communications for transport Sector. His career includes pioneering GPRS use in transport, establishing an RTIG, EV Charging Working group and a National Airtime Framework, and advising government and industry on real-time passenger information, connected vehicles and pan-European data transmission. Peter deliver Europe’s first successful deployment of roaming IoT SIMs for the London 2012 Olympics. He contributes to standards and innovation through BSI, DfT and the Transport Technology Forum EV.
