Response to the Bus Services Act 2025 Consultation: Improving information about local services

Eduardo Pitts

ITS UK has responded to the Department for Transport’s consultation on improving information about local services under the Bus Services Act 2025. The response focuses on the future of the Bus Open Data Service (BODS).

Our response recommends that DfT:

  • sets measurable, enforceable data-quality standards, including more frequent real-time location updates;
  • introduces clearer data states and checks before data is published;
  • supports interoperable data across modes, nations and bus market structures;
  • puts passenger needs at the heart of reform, with accessibility treated as a core outcome;
  • delivers these changes through a phased, evidence-led roadmap, with practical support for smaller operators and authorities.
