CJ Founds Ltd is proud to announce its sponsorship of a team of student engineers from the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering (NCME) at the University of Greater Manchester, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community engagement and investing in the next generation of engineering talent.

The funding supports a team of eight Greater Manchester students participating in this weekend’s UK Formula Student (FS) competition at Silverstone—Europe’s most prestigious educational motorsport engineering challenge. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, the event tasks university teams with designing, building, and racing a single-seater race car. Backed by industry leaders and engineering icons such as Ross Brawn OBE, the competition is widely seen as the gold standard for engineering graduates and a launchpad into successful careers in motorsport and related industries.

Each project typically forms part of a degree-level curriculum and is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world engineering application. Participants gain hands-on experience in areas such as mechanical design, business planning, and project management—crucial skills that prepare them for the challenges of modern engineering roles.

CJ Founds, which has been successfully operating in the North West for over a decade, has a strong track record of delivering innovative solutions across a variety of sectors. The company has worked closely with 5G Innovation in Region (5GIR) on forward-thinking projects across highways, transport, and social housing, helping to drive digital transformation and infrastructure improvement across the region.

Chris Founds, Managing Director of CJ Founds, commented:“Inspiring young people to become the engineers of tomorrow is vital. The world is evolving at an extraordinary pace, with innovation and technology at the heart of that change. CJ Founds is committed to giving back to the community through education, and I’m delighted to be sponsoring such an enthusiastic and talented team from the University of Greater Manchester—my own alma mater from way back in the 1990’s! Supporting regional talent and collaborating on transformative projects like those with 5GIR is central to our mission as a business rooted in the North West.”

Rory McLaughlin, University of Greater Manchester Student, said:“Participating in UK’s Formula Student competition at Silverstone is an incredible opportunity and experience. To be able to enhance my engineering skills, whilst doing something I love, alongside other students that feel the same way… well, what’s not to like. The sponsorship from CJ Founds is helping myself and others get on to the industry ladder.”

By supporting this initiative, CJ Founds is helping ensure the next generation of engineers are equipped with the skills, experience, and passion needed to thrive in a competitive and fast-moving industry—while continuing to play a key role in the advancement of regional infrastructure and innovation.
