Parliamentary Roundtable on Rural Mobility

10 September @ 08:00 - 11:00

Members Only

On 13 June, ITS UK will host a breakfast roundtable in Parliament exploring how transport technology can support rural mobility, particularly in the area of Demand Responsive Transport (DRT).

At the Roundtable, we will explore how transport technology can support rural mobility, particularly through DRT. We will discuss:

  • How the transport technology industry addresses better rural mobility;
  • The role of DRT services in connecting up rural areas;
  • How we integrate transport services more effectively; and
  • What Government can do to support DRT, including through changes to regulation.

The session will bring together policymakers, including MPs and Peers from across Parliament, alongside local authorities, DRT providers and industry leaders.

In March, ahead of the Budget, ITS UK launched an open letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling for a change in VAT rules, which currently mean transport authorities are incentivised to buy larger, 10+ seater vehicles for DRT schemes, as smaller, more carbon-efficient vehicles have VAT applied to fares. The current rules make DRT schemes more expensive for local authorities, as it means higher purchase, operation and maintenance costs, as well as reducing the environmental benefit of DRT schemes.

This roundtable is sponsored by Via Transportation.

There are limited spaces at this event so ITS UK members are encouraged to book quickly to avoid dissappointment.
