This group works to identify the current passenger and freight logistics handling requirements of the ports, logistics companies and other bodies that may be helped by ITS technologies.  It promotes awareness of available ITS technologies and how they may be used to enhance transfer of passengers and goods within and without of ports and in the surrounding hinterland, including integration with the road and rail networks, and road and rail network management systems.

It also seeks to identify and to address the potential legal and institutional barriers to implementation of ITS technologies, and works to ensure that any international standards in the use of ITS technology in a ports environment are appropriate and workable from a UK viewpoint, and compliment related existing UK and international standards.

The Forum also highlights the use of new technology on board vessels and how this is likely to enhance the efficiency and environmental performance of the sector.
