Daniel Johns

Strategic Consultant, Open Weather

Daniel Johns is currently a Senior Strategy Consultant at OpenWeather and has spent the last four decades working across a wide range of roles in the weather industry.

This includes 21 years at the UK’s Met Office, where he held positions spanning operational forecasting, commercial management, business development and consultancy to first responders as part of the National Resilience framework.

He later joined Finnish technology company Vaisala, a manufacturer of weather measurement equipment including weather balloons, radar and sensors for atmospheric and road weather conditions. During his time there, he led the global Road Transport Segment before moving into a strategy role focused on emerging technologies.

Daniel has also contributed to industry standards and innovation, serving as a member of the European Standards Committee for Road Weather Information Systems and as a Rapporteur within the Car2Car Communication Consortium, focusing on the impact of weather on autonomous driving.

In addition, he sits on the Advisory Panel for the West Midlands Net Zero project, a Wellcome Trust-funded initiative examining the health impacts of Net Zero policies.
