Having previously worked for WSP as an ITS Engineer on the Northamptonshire Highways Service Delivery contract, I joined 4way Consulting in 2012 and am the Sector Lead for Smart Cities responsible for both the Urban ITS and Street Lighting disciplines. I am a Chartered Engineer and have over 17 years’ experience specialising in the design and implementation of traffic signal and urban ITS schemes in the UK. I have a proven track record in delivering traffic signal schemes on both the local and strategic networks from concept through to post commissioning validation with expertise in MOVA, and Linked MOVA, design and validation. Im also an industry expert in traffic signals and how they interface with light rail, working as the traffic signal technical lead on the Birmingham tramway extension since 2017.
My key achievements are –
- Being the traffic signal discipline lead for six new tramway extensions in Birmingham for the Midland Metro Alliance. I also led the traffic signal modifications and MOVA validation to support the closure of the Fiveways tunnel in Birmingham, a job for which the MMA team received written compliments from the Head of Transport for West Midlands.
- I lead the Smart Cities Sector, responsible for the growth of the sector, with a current turnover in excess of £1.2 million.
- I lead the successful delivery of the National Highways Area 3 and 4 traffic signal validation and optimisation programme in 2018 reduced complaints on the network by 95 percent and led to the re-appointment of 4way in 2019 and beyond
- I was awarded the IHE CEng review of the year 2021 and in 2025 I was the IHE Member of the month in the July edition of the Highways publication.
- I have presented two papers for the Women in ITS (WITS) ITS UK forum – one on Intelligent Street Lighting and another on traffic signal safety mitigation on the Hagley Road Tram Terminus Traffic Signal site. I have also presented four papers at the JCT Symposium, winning the most innovative paper award in 2025.
