  • Continuing a long-standing relationship, five Berkshire Local Authorities have awarded Yunex Traffic a new traffic signal and ITS maintenance contract, which will run for up to ten years.
  • The contract covers nearly 550 traffic signal sites, and an additional 250 ITS infrastructure locations across the county.
  • The deployment of Yunex Traffic’s advanced, more sustainable and energy-efficient technologies will provide significant performance benefits.
  • Road users across the county will continue to benefit from reliable infrastructure, reducing delays and improving safety, journey times and air quality.

Five local authorities in Berkshire – Reading Borough, West Berkshire, Slough Borough, Wokingham, and Bracknell Forest Councils – have renewed Yunex Traffic’s traffic signal and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) maintenance contract for up to a further ten years. Having held the contract since 2006, Yunex Traffic will continue to maintain all traffic signal and ITS equipment, as well as install new infrastructure from the company’s extensive portfolio of innovative, more sustainable and energy efficient solutions, all manufactured at its advanced manufacturing facility in the UK.

With all five local authorities using Yunex Traffic’s urban traffic control system, UTC-UX, and its Stratos traffic management solution to run their ITS assets, the company will support the councils’ complete portfolios of integrated solutions, services and assets. As a result of the work, residents and road users will benefit from well-maintained traffic signals and ITS equipment.  Yunex Traffic’s high-quality, high-performance solutions will help improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, cut delays and emissions, and enhance safety, journey times and air quality across the county.

Technology to support efficiency and growth

The company’s innovative solutions – including its Plus+ traffic control system and new Yutraffic Actis signal heads – are designed to deliver significant operational, performance and environmental benefits.  They also prioritise fast, easy installation, minimizing time on site and reducing disruption for road users.

As one of the UK’s major economic hubs, Berkshire is home to many thriving businesses, including major global technology and finance organisations. Smooth and efficient transport links play a key role in the region’s success, with its excellent road and rail connections vital to its continued economic growth.

In keeping with its dynamic economy, Berkshire has long been an early adopter of Yunex Traffic’s latest technology and has recently worked closely with the company to install its Plustraffic signal control solution at locations across the county. In the coming months, Bracknell is also set to deploy Yutraffic FUSION – Yunex Traffic’s multi-modal adaptive traffic control solution, supported by the Government’s Green Light Fund initiative. Similarly, Reading, Slough and Wokingham councils will all be drawing on Traffic Signal Obsolescence Grants to upgrade old, halogen traffic signal sites to Yunex Traffic’s more sustainable and efficient LED units.

Commitment to Local Communities

The award of this contract reflected Yunex Traffic’s commitment to deliver a range of sustainability and social value initiatives in partnership with the local authorities. With many of the company’s operatives and engineers already living in and around Berkshire, it is fully committed to hiring local employees, providing training opportunities, supporting apprenticeships and encouraging young people into work.

It is also keen to support local community projects in Berkshire, both financially and through voluntary work, particularly around the area of mental health, and has already identified ‘Hub of Hope’ as a partner to work alongside.

Wilke Reints, Managing Director, Yunex Traffic UK, said: “Our delivery teams are looking forward to working in partnership with the Councils to effectively provide a “one stop shop” solution for all their traffic signal and ITS needs. This holistic approach means that we can support and optimise the whole road network, helping to ensure that sustainability goals are met, and congestion and emissions are minimised.

“From routine maintenance and upgrades, to scheme designs, validations, and managed services, our experienced field-based teams, supported by colleagues at our Poole-based head office, will draw on the 20 years’ knowledge and experience we have built up whilst working in Berkshire, as well as a great understanding of the county’s road network and operation.
