ITS UK and DfT launch nationwide Digital Twin Industry Days roadshow

29 June 2026: ITS UK and the Department for Transport (DfT) will host a series of interactive sessions across the country exploring the potential of, and creating opportunities for collaboration with, Digital Twins in the transport sector.

The Government is seeking to accelerate the adoption of digital twin technologies across the transport sector, with a particular focus on integrated digital twins, crisis response and network management.

This ambition is reflected in the TRIB Digital Twin Vision and Roadmap to 2035, the Transport Data Action Plan, innovation funding provided through Transport Research and Innovation Grants (TRIG), the Better Connected: A Strategy for Integrated Transport commitment to invest £30 million in Integrated Digital Twins for local authorities, and the commitment to a long term programme for network management, crisis response and resilience planning at the Transport Climate Adaptation Strategy.

The Industry Days are intended to help transport authorities and Arms’ Length Bodies, understand the opportunities presented by digital twins and prepare for future deployment.

To support DfT in raising awareness and understanding of digital twin technologies, ITS UK will organise a series of one-day interactive sessions throughout July, aimed particularly at local authorities, combined authorities and transport authorities.

The Digital Twin Industry Days will comprise five sessions, beginning on 14 July in Liverpool, the day before ITS UK’s Digital Transport Forum. The full list of sessions is as follows:

Commenting on the initiative, ITS UK Chief Executive Max Sugarman said: Digital twin technology has significant potential to improve how we manage and operate our transport networks, whether through more effective network management, optimising journeys, or enabling faster responses to crises and incidents. We are delighted to be working with DfT to bring industry and transport authorities together through these events and help prepare the sector for future Government investment.”
