A Mid-Year Update from ITS UK

Max Sugarman
Chief Executive

Dear ITS UK Member,

I hope you are well and enjoying the summer.

With June coming to an end it is almost hard to believe we are now halfway through 2023. This year is one of significant change for ITS UK so I wanted to write to you to give you a mid-year update on what the organisation has achieved so far, and an overview of what the next six months will bring.

In 2023 our focus is on taking ITS UK to the next stage of its development, building upon the brilliant work of the team and members who have helped make it such a highly-regarded and well-respected organisation.

At the end of 2022, we surveyed you, the membership, to gather views on what you wanted to see from your industry association. You told us how much you valued the ITS UK membership offer, particularly the events and forums, but also how you wanted to see the organisation take a greater advocacy role and become more of a voice for the sector.

Over the past six months, we’ve aimed to deliver on these priorities:

  • We’ve undergone a rebrand and launched a new website, in order to better reflect the modern, dynamic sector we represent.
  • We’ve ensured the industry’s voice is heard at the highest levels, holding meetings and events with the Transport Innovation Minister, DfT Special Advisors, the Shadow Roads Minister, the Lib Dem Transport Team and Transport Select Committee Chair as well as organising a Parliamentary Reception where representatives from all three national parties’ frontbenches spoke.
  • We’ve published our Annual Review, with more contributors from the wider transport sector, Parliament and key clients than ever before.
  • We’ve submitted consultation responses to the Transport Select Committee, Treasury and London Assembly and will be responding to National Highways SRN Initial Report shortly.
  • We’ve maintained delivery of our much-enjoyed forum programme, with at least one event organised by each of our 15 forums in the first half of this year, whilst adding new events like our Executive Dinners, Transport2030 webinars and breakfast briefings. A big thank you in particular to our forum officers who help us design and deliver these events.
  • And we’ve seen our membership continue to grow and thrive, with new members joining from all parts of the industry, covering all sizes and disciplines.

Below we set out these activities in a detailed timeline, with a look ahead to what the rest of 2023 will bring. There is still much more to come, with plans for a new Members Area on the website, our annual Awards & President’s Dinner and the launch of the ITS Exports Study, to name a few.

We hope you are enjoying your membership year so farwe welcome all feedback on how we can continue to improve our membership offer, whether via email or phone. Ultimately, ITS UK is here to support and empower you.

We look forward to continue working with you in the second half of 2023 to deliver on behalf of the entire intelligent transport industry.

Kind regards,

Max
