Transport After the General Election

23 May @ 09:00 - 16:00

Partner Event

How will a new UK Government de-carbonise, fund and deliver a sustainable transport system?

Net zero, transport reform, funding and delivery remain the big challenges facing the transport industry. With a General Election due this year, this event by the Transport Times will feature expert discussion on what the response and approach of the new government might be.

During this event the following will be discussed:

  • The imminent pre-legislative scrutiny of the draft Rail Reform Bill – will there be cross party support and will Great British Railways and vertical integration be delivered in full? What role will the private sector play going forward?
  • Network North has replaced the northern leg of HS2 – will this continue to be the case or will High Speed 2 be resurrected? How will improved connectivity and additional capacity be realised and what role will the Rail Network Enhancement Pipeline play in the future?
  • Devolution of transport powers across rail and bus are seen as vital for creating the favourable conditions for achieving affordable, joined-up public transport networks to provide viable alternatives to private cars. How high a priority will further devolution of powers be so that City Regions can plan and deliver these crucial transport networks and services and achieve behavioural change?
  • Will the next Government be brave enough to champion and fund the green policies necessary to achieve Net Zero or will populism be a serious threat to de-carbonisation?

This one day conference will bring together key decision-makers, practitioners and thinkers to discuss and debate what the transport industry may look like after the General Election
