Stagecoach modernises fleet operations with Ridango
Ridango is supporting Stagecoach in the modernisation of its fleet operations technology, providing a common platform for vehicle tracking, service management and operational performance across the business.
The solution will see Ridango replace Stagecoach’s existing AVL back-office environment, bringing live operations and historical service data together within a single operational platform.
The deployment covers 16 Stagecoach operating companies and more than 6,000 vehicles, making it one of Ridango’s largest operational technology deployments globally.
Bringing operational information together
Stagecoach operates a complex technology environment supporting thousands of vehicles, routes and daily services. Ridango integrates information from across this environment to create a consistent operational view for teams throughout the organisation.
The platform brings together vehicle location, timetable, ticketing, telematics, incident and service-performance information from multiple Stagecoach systems and data sources.
This gives operational teams live visibility of vehicles and services, including delays, cancellations, curtailments, vehicle changes and other disruptions. Historical operational information can then be used across customer service, performance management, planning and reporting.
Rather than different teams relying on separate sources of information, Ridango provides a shared operational record that can support decisions across the organisation.
From live operations to long-term improvement
Beyond day-to-day fleet monitoring, the platform provides Stagecoach with detailed historical information about how services operated.
Actual running times, dwell times, punctuality and service performance can be analysed against planned timetables, helping teams identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve schedules and operations.
The platform also supports investigation of individual journeys and operational events, providing customer service and management teams with greater visibility into what happened on the network.
A key principle of the solution is that operational information should be captured once and made available to the teams and systems that need it. Integrations with Stagecoach’s wider technology environment help reduce duplicate data entry while creating a more consistent flow of operational information across the business.
Building a resilient operational data foundation
Ridango also combines information from multiple vehicle and operational data sources to improve the resilience and quality of service information.
Where expected vehicle or trip information is incomplete or a vehicle deviates from planned route, additional location and operational data help identify and track services. This strengthens both the real-time passenger information, live operations and historical information available for subsequent analysis.
Through the solution, Stagecoach and Ridango are establishing a common operational data foundation that connects live fleet management with customer information, reporting, planning and performance analysis across the UK’s largest Bus Operator.
